Fergus Falls Girls Basketball (Season Preview)

By Craig Olson - Fergus Falls, MN

The Fergus Falls girls basketball team returns their entire team from a year ago, a season that saw the Otters finish 11-16 overall and 7-9 in the Central Lakes Conference.

"We have all of our girls back and they have worked hard in the off-season both in the gym playing basketball and in the weight room," said Head Coach Brad Strand.  "The experience from last year should be beneficial.  We hope to be able to get our defensive and offensive schemes in place quicker and add a few wrinkles.  The conference teams did not graduate very many all-conference players so that means we have lots of talented teams back in the CLC and Section 8AAA."

Seniors Anna Norgard, Amanda Nelson, Jenna Traiser, Jordan Spangler, Marie Preston, Joey Kugler, Solveig Lundberg, and Maren Lundberg, junior Kate Strand, and sophomore Lily Pearson all bring extensive varsity experience to the table, with sophomore Sam Evavold looking to contribute at the varsity level.

"Alexandria, Brainerd and Willmar will all be contenders in the CLC, with Alexandria being the favorite in the section," said Strand.  "The next few spots are wide open!  Sartell and Sauk Rapids-Rice will both be strong and we add Bemidji to our section.  The past champion, Thief River Falls, returns two very good playres."

Strand will be assisted by Josh Steer and Kevin Pearson.
